Osaka Castle Walks with Edward — Getting There
How to Get to Osaka Castle — Best Station & Exit
Osaka Castle is surrounded by a large park, so there is no single station that is simply “the Osaka Castle station.” The best station depends on which side of the castle you want to approach from.
Tanimachi 4-chome Station — best for the historic western approach
Take the Osaka Metro Tanimachi Line or Chuo Line to Tanimachi 4-chome.
For the main castle route, the official access map recommends:
Tanimachi 4-chome → Otemon Gate → Sakuramon Gate → Osaka Castle tower.
The Chuo Line's Exit 11 and the Tanimachi Line's Exit 1A provide accessible routes toward the park entrance.
This is my preferred approach if you want to experience Osaka Castle as a fortress rather than simply walk toward the tower — it is the route the half-day itinerary follows.
Meeting point note: the guided walking tour starts at 2-3-6 Tanimachi — 90 seconds from Exit 1A. Details are on the Osaka Castle tour page.
Morinomiya Station — good for the southern/eastern side
Morinomiya is served by the JR Osaka Loop Line, Osaka Metro Chuo Line and Nagahori Tsurumi-ryokuchi Line.
The Metro's Exit 3-B provides access toward the castle park.
This is a convenient choice if you are coming from southern Osaka or want to explore the park from the Morinomiya side.
Osaka Castle Park Station (Osakajokoen) — convenient from Osaka/Umeda
The JR Osaka Loop Line's Osaka Castle Park Station (Osakajokoen) is a straightforward choice from Osaka Station.
The station is next to JO-TERRACE OSAKA and provides an easy entrance into the park. From there, however, you still have a substantial walk to the castle tower.
Temmabashi Station
Temmabashi is served by the Osaka Metro Tanimachi Line and Keihan Line. It is useful if you are coming from the Keihan side of Osaka or want to approach the castle from the northwest.
Which station should you use?
For the historic approach: Tanimachi 4-chome
From Osaka/Umeda: Osaka Castle Park (Osakajokoen)
From southern Osaka: Morinomiya
From Kyoto/Keihan: Temmabashi or Morinomiya, depending on your route
And remember: getting to the park is not the same as reaching the castle tower. From the station, you are entering a huge historical landscape, not walking directly into a building. Once you are inside the grounds, the season changes what you see — see the best time to visit — and if you are planning a longer stop, the half-day itinerary times everything from this western approach.

What is the best exit at Tanimachi 4-chome?
Exit 1A on the Tanimachi Line and Exit 11 on the Chuo Line both provide accessible routes toward the park entrance. The walking tour meeting point is 90 seconds from Exit 1A.
How far is Osaka Castle from Osaka Station?

Which gate should I enter Osaka Castle through?
The official approach from Tanimachi 4-chome runs Otemon Gate → Sakuramon Gate → castle tower. It takes you through the western fortifications instead of walking straight at the tower, and it is the route the castle's own access map recommends.
